Sicilian cuisine demistified

Well, I know that the most of you will use TripAdvisor to find the best restaurant where to have a traditional sicilian meal.

Ok, keep on doing it, but these are some tips on what to avoid when you have a sit in a restaurant in Sicily.

It is going to be structured as a list of dishes you should (I would say, MUST) not order:

  • The very famous "Pasta alla bolognese" (pasta with meat sauce).....it comes originally from Emilia-Romagna, an italian region in the center of the peninsula.
  • "Pasta alla carbonara" (pasta with an egg-based creamy source and bacon)......again, something that has become very famous in the whole Italy but it is part of Roman traditional cuisine.
  • "Sgaloppine (or scaloppine)" (veal escalopes), mainly served with mushrooms. It is part of the Lombardy traditional cuisine.
  • "Tortellini panna e prosciutto" (tortellini, a type of ring-shaped stuffed pasta, with ham and cream). "Tortellini" are stuffed with meat and are very famous in Emilia but, again, they have become massively used in all the italian regions.

List is going to be updated......in the meantime, choose well while you are eating in a sicilian restaurant.
