In part I, I have presented a list of ten movies filmed in Sicily between the 50s and 1995. Now I want to show you ten movies filmed in Sicily between the 1996 and 2011.
MARIANNA UCRIA by Roberto Faenza filmed in Siracusa, Noto, Palazzolo Acreide and "Villa Fegotto" in Chiaramonte Gulfi
MALENA by Giuseppe Tornatore with Monica Bellucci filmed in Siracusa and in the province of Agrigento
PLACIDO RIZZOTTO by Pasquale Scimeca filmed in Corleone and Isnello
I CENTO PASSI by Marco Tullio Giordana filmed in Cinisi (near Palermo)
RESPIRO by Emanuele Crialese filmed in Lampedusa (one of the pelagian islands in the mediterranean sea)
PERDUTO AMOR by Franco Battiato filmed in Bronte (near Catania), Donnafugata, Ispica and Ragusa Riposto
IL REGISTA DI MATRIMONI by Marco Bellocchio filmed in Cefalu
SALVATORE QUESTA E’ LA VITA by Gian Paolo Cugno filmed in Pachino, Portopalo di Capopassero and Marzamemi
I VICERE by Roberto Faenza filmed in Acireale and Catania
TERRAFERMA by Emanuele Crialese filmed in Linosa (one of the pelagian islands in the mediterranean sea)
Again, this is not a ranking! It is a selection of movies that I recommend to watch if you are going to come to Sicily for a holiday.
Among this second list, I would go for "I CENTO PASSI" (because it tells the story of Peppino Impastato and his struggling against the mafia) but I love "PERDUTO AMOR" by Franco Battiato and its way to describe lifestyle in a little sicilian town (as I appreciate his great music production, too! buy "Battiato Live Collection", a selection of the best songs of his, just to have a flavour of his great art).
Thank you for your interest.
Ciao!!
